Product Description Exclusively designed to suit the characteristics of digital SLR cameras. The image circle was designed to match the size of the image sensors of most digitalSLR cameras and this has resulted in a compact lightweight lens. Sigma has incorporated an HSM Hyper Sonic Motor into the 18-50mm F3.5-5.6 DC HSM, that now allows quite and high-speed autofocusing with all Nikon DSLR cameras. Aspherical lens and Super Multi Layer Coating are used for excellent lens performance. High image quality is assured throughout the entire zoom range.
Compact-Lightweight zoom lens has a maximum diameter of 60mm (2.4in.), overall length of 69.6mm (2.4in.) and weight of only 250gr (8.8 ounces) and filter size of 58mm. Compact dimensions offers superb handling and mobility. The use of aspherical lenses provides correction for various aberrations throughout the entire zoom range and produce high level of optical performance.
Sigma took digital characteristics into consideration when designing the lens power layout and created the most suitable lens that makes high quality images a reality throughout the entire zoom range. We used the most appropriate coating for digital products to cut down flare and ghost caused by digital SLR cameras and to produce the best color balance. It can be used with the supplied lens hood to block out extraneous light.
18-50mm F3.5-5.6 DC HSM zoom lens has a minimum focusing distance of 25cm (9.8in.) at all focal lengths and is capable of macro photography with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3.5. The focus ring provides easy operation in manual mode. A distance scale on the focus ring is an easy to use and convenient addition.

Good lense July 18, 2010 Matthew P. Lobur (Las Vegas, NV) Not a bad lens, you get what you pay for, I just use it for a smaller size zoom lens than the one that came with my D90, good lens over all though, especially for the price and yet to have a problem with it
Wide Angle Zoom Lens for Nikon D3000 July 6, 2010 Bob Moore Very please with the product and the quality of services was great from the vendor.
Very Affordable, Excellent Image Quality July 1, 2010 Leslie C. Zane (Siskiyou County, CA, USA) While this is a basic wide angle zoom, lacking features like super-fast aperture or image stabilization, it performs better than it's price class indicates. The build quality is solid, the controls are obvious and easy to use, and the images taken with this lens are superb. Unless you know that you will be shooting in extreme low light -- like a moonlit night -- I find no reason to spring for a faster lens in this format. A faster telephoto is very valuable, but for a wide angle zoom, this is my workhorse.
Delivers! June 25, 2010 Soonershoot I was cursed with a Nikon "kit" lens. After a period of time the motor simply stopped working. I had no idea how poor the lens was until I purchased this Sigma to replace it. The Sigma is a quality product at a reasonable price. It even handles hand motion at slow shutter speeds better than the Nikon did when NEW!
Great lens for every day shooting. May 25, 2010 lalalaa_dolce_vita (Seattle, WA) I love this lens. It's great for every day shooting. The wide angle isn't really super wide, but you know that from the numbers.
The only reason I say it's not super portable is that it's a little big- there's really only one configuration that works with my smallest bag, so it's less than convenient. This could be solved by my willingness to carry a bigger camera bag, but I'm not there yet.
I had this lens once before and dropped it (!!) and just replaced it. I like it enough to buy it twice!
