Product Description Now you can take close-up shots like you never took before. Opteka proudly presents the next HD10X macro lens. Originally designed for dentists and medical use, the HD10X is now available to the public. Unlike current single element lenses, the HD10X has 4 elements of high definition optical glass that provides unbelievable detail. Cameras fitted with normal lenses do not permit us to move closer than a certain minimum distance from the object being photographed. The Close-Up lens, which is simply mounted in the front of our normal taking lens, permits the taking of close-ups and also makes possible the photography of details which would be quite impossible without using the Close-Up lens. The easy to use solution for getting extra close. These lenses enable you to get much closer than the minimum focus of the standard camera lens - as close as 4 inches from the subject. Ideal for cataloging small items and focusing on details.

Excellent value June 24, 2010 C. Brown This does not have the edge sharpness of a lens ten times its cost but it is much higher quality than I expected for the price. It's a perfect way to explore fisheye and extreme wide angle ideas. The focus and metering work just fine with it attached to the 14-45mm kit lens.
Macro Lens November 30, 2009 Jeff R. Parr 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This macro lens performs at the level of its price. It isn't a $500. macro lens. It is a screw-on adapter that magnifies the image of your current lens. There may be vignetting in the corners of your image depending on the magnification. This can easily be cropped out. Focus is a bit tricky due to the shallow depth of field. These points may seem negative but they are an honest review. I can't afford a $500. macro so this is an excellent bargain for me. I've used these with film cameras and now with my DSLR. For insects, flowers, and small details, you can't beat it.
Stay away from this crap August 2, 2009 Adri 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I don't know what the others liked about this "professional macro lens", but i found this item a real CRAP. From the beginning it looked weird because the paper that comes inside the box said something like "discontinued", so i was a bit skeptic and trying it finally confirmed my doubts: IT'S A CRAP; and an expensive one. You can only use this lens if your camera is on a tripod; forget about hunting insects with your camera, or following them around because you won't be able to focus unless you're a rock holding a camera, and the insect is a close friend of you to let you get as as close as 5 mm from it. So this is a lens just for studio macro, not in-field macro. May be that's why they say is a "professional" lens, because you can only use it in a studio with very special conditions.
Other thing is you should not use it with a super zoom lens, it just do a bit of job with a wide angle lens, and that's the way to avoid the vignetting you get from using a super zoom lens. I shoot Olympus so i had to use it with the 14-42 mm lens, with the 40-150 mm was impossible to get any result.
So, if you don't have enough money to buy a real macro lens, like me :), i think it would be better to buy one of those sets that have like three or four close up lenses of different X measures, or get a magnifier and place it in front of your super zoom lens and it would do a better job.
UPDATE: The other day, almost a year after I bought this useless lens I forced my self to use it and tried it again with all my lenses which are not too many, 14-42, 40-150, and 70-300 since they all have the same diameter(58mm). I did something incredible, started to hunt bees. I don't know how many pictures I took but they were a lot using continuous mode and only 2 shots were sharp. Since you cannot use live view, I just started to shoot any bee I found, and all that using the 40-150 at 70, I think between 70 and 100 is the best range to use; of course, lower too, but you want real magnification, not something you can get with the 70-300, which is useless with this macro lens. I'm going to post the picture on the product's link. I'm not trying to encourage people to buy this product but fear is fear and i have to show what you can get in a very lucky day with a lot of sun and this lens.
Good buy July 9, 2009 R. Nelson (Chicago IL) Te item came very fast, it seams to be of good quality, solid with no scratches and no defects. Great buy for the money. It also came with a nice pouch for the lens.
Fantastic June 17, 2009 bugsinHawaii (Hawaii) You just can't beat the price. This is a wonderful lens, easy to attach and easy to use. The results are just amazing. I just love it. You can't go wrong with this lens.
