Product Description
The Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8-4 DG zoom lens offers a large aperture of F2.8 at 28mm focal length and yet it is compact and lightweight, with an overall length of 62.5mm and weight of 255g. (9oz.). This digitally optimized diagonal fisheye lens is equipped with a new multi-layer coating technology that reduces both flare and ghosting. This compact, large aperture zoom lens is ideal for digital and 35mm SLR cameras. The size and weight of this standard lens makes it very suitable for landscape photography, and snapshots. DG is a designation Sigma uses on lenses featuring optical systems designed to meet the performance characteristics of digital SLR cameras.

4 out of 5 stars Not bad for the money   July 26, 2010

The lens will not cost you an arm and a leg but for the money hands down the best in the 28-90mm lens I have used. The 2.8 at the wide side and 4 in the zoom is wonderful in low light. Much better than the Tamaron and cheaper than the Canon. I used this on my Canon 50D and was not disappointed. This lens may have switched my loyalty from the Canon lenses that I do own to only using Sigma, with the exception of L series lenses from Canon that are amazing.

5 out of 5 stars Great value for the price! Sharp lens!   May 16, 2009

I am a Semi-Professional Photographer and this lens is great for the price. It takes sharp images, good color and contrast. I have had no issue with the auto focus on this lens contrary to other reviews, maybe I got a good copy. It is also very fast! Works fine in low light conditions in or outdoor. Good walk around lens for the money, I own several Sigma lenses because I know a good deal when I see one. It is sturdy enough if you are not too hard on it and besides you should not ever drop your lens or your camera! Canon makes great lenses but they don't have great prices and I am sure you all agree with that. Great for beginners and someone who needs a descent lens for the price. It is as sharp as a nifty fifty at 50mm. I recommend you buy this lens.

4 out of 5 stars good lens, but focus can be better   February 11, 2009

i first bought this lens because of the price and the minimum aperture of f2.8

ive read the reviews before hand, and they basicly all hold up. the lens is louder than my old canon EF lens, but that doesnt bother me and shouldnt be the main concern.

my only gripe is the focusing. my 20D has a small screen so im not really able to tell what in focus or not. after i took a couple of pics and looked at them on computer, they came out a little blurry. even with alot of light and a fast shutter. i then started to try other things to see whats up. i found that using a tripod made all the difference. other than the focusing, this lens is good for the price. nice aperture, sharp, compact,

update:

after knowing more about photography, it is no surprise that at f/2.8 it is not the sharpest. great DOF but like others said the focus is soft/ off

after doing some test. (on a tripod with manual setting to keep exposure constant, autofocus on, canon 20D) i found that at 28mm, around f/9 is the sharpest. at 70mm f/13. hoepfully this will help out some people.

3 out of 5 stars Decent lens as long as you are ok with manual focus.....   January 9, 2009

This is a decent lens with a very cheap build. The auto focus is horrible on this lens. It is not a problem for me but for someone who can't use manual focus it could be a HUGE issue. When auto focus is used the image appears to be a bit soft or out of focus. If you use manual focus the image quality really improves but is still not that great.

Great little lens. I am really happy with Sigma.. this is my second Sigma lens.. although it isn't quite a canon it does a great job.
